Social Money Times #12

Hello Rollers,

We announce our $10 million Series A, NFTs continue to run rampant on fine art auction houses, and NFL is coming in hot with a Dapper Labs partnership. September started off explosively, and it looks like it’s coming to an end in the same way.

Welcome to Social Money Times #12!

Who’s on a Roll

1️⃣ We’re on a Roll! It’s been an incredible past few months, and we’re excited to announce our $10M Series A fundraise led by IOSG. With this round of investment, we’re planning on growing the team and expanding the technical capabilities of what Roll can do. You can read more about our raise in our blog post here.

The raise was covered by several publications, including The BlockCoinDeskCointelegraphDecryptTheStreetBlockworksSiliconanglePRNewswireTheInformationChainNews8BTCOdailyBitpushChaincatcher, and many others we sincerely thank for the write-up.

2️⃣ Christie’s Apes. Earlier in the month, Sotheby’s made headlines in the crypto world with their auction of 101 NFTs from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC). Christie’s couldn’t miss out on the action, and they just announced their own BAYC NFTs auction that will take place in their 20th/21st Century: London Evening Sale on October 15.

3️⃣ More NF…L?! NFT and gaming company Dapper Labs, the name behind NBA Topshot and Cryptokitties announced their partnership with the National Football League (NFL). Much like NBA Topshot, Dapper Labs will be creating digital video collectibles of iconic NFL moments that football fans will be able to collect.

New Money

$1337 Sponsorship. Whaleshark’s luxury esports apparel brand 1337 announced one of the very first blockchain esports sponsorships with AxieGg. Together they are making history by materializing the first blockchain e-sports team merchandise collaboration. Here’s to a long and fruitful relationship! 🥂

$SKULL Exclusives. Crypto artist Skeenee dropped some new PixelNoodles to his collection on OpenSea, which can be purchased exclusively with his social token $SKULL. In addition, $SKULL collectors receive a 24h exclusive pre-sale access and a 50% rebate on one token of their choice. Talk about a good deal.

$FIRST Bridge. Music producer Harrison First announced that $FIRST is now available on Polygon in addition to Ethereum. Token holders can now move their tokens between the two chains. Harrison also noted that the $FIRST team is working on some benefits for $FIRST holders that move their tokens to Polygon. Colour us intrigued!

Humans of Social Money: Rare Designer of $RARE

“Inspired by Skeenee and $SKULL, I decided to create $RARE because I saw it as something that could help me promote my work and develop incentives for collectors of my art. Collectors buying my art would receive $RARE, and they would then be able to use it to redeem exclusive NFTs that were only available for $RARE. That would allow collectors to recoup their investments in some way.

Now, in addition to that, people in the $RARE community can take part in talent contests, create “Rare Pepes” in a $RARE version and interact with each other on Discord. In the future, I want to release the latest version of Odysseum and create a project called “Pixels Rare”, the first sales of which will both be in $RARE.

I think social tokens are excellent promotional tools that enable content creators to form an internal micro-market with their own criteria. My intention with $RARE is for it to be a currency that works to promote digital artists. The idea is to encourage young artists who are still training in universities and granting $RARE “scholarships” to the best of them.” — Rare Designer.
